Bath oil is a commonly used product for those who like to take long and relaxing baths. Like bubble baths these oils are designed to fragrance and sometimes even to colour the water. Most won’t produce any or as many bubbles as bubble baths, however.

As its name indicates a bath oil is an oil based product. The advantage of using oils of this kind in the bath is that they can help restore the skin’s balance in many cases. They may, for example, help if you have dry skin as they can help moisturise it while you have a good long soak.

People can buy many different types of bath oil nowadays. One of the first times that many people come across this type of product is when they were kids. Baby bath oil is extremely popular with many parents and has traditionally been used in a baby’s bath to help moisturise the baby’s skin and to keep it feeling soft.

Whilst there is no reason why an adult can’t sneakily use their baby’s bath oil, many will prefer to buy their own. These oils are often linked to aromatherapy as they hold smells and scents so well which can enhance the relaxing effect that a bath can have. The actual variations here can vary widely.

So, for example, some bath oils may simply be marketed as being relaxing and soothing. Some may claim to help relieve stress and some may claim to be energising. This kind of bath oil will generally contain herbs, flowers and other ingredients such as camomile that are held to promote a certain mood.

For many, the real fun in choosing a bath oil is in finding a scent that they really like. Many bath oils nowadays may also contain other useful ingredients such as vitamins that can, once again, help with dry or damaged skin issues. Others simply like to use a bath oil simply because it leaves their skin really soft and refreshed.

Most people will end up choosing one or two bath oils that they like to use or a certain brand. For many, it is important to choose a bath oil that manages to moisturise the skin and leaves it feeling soft without leaving a layer of greasiness behind it. Some bath oils are greasier than others in this respect so you may need to try one or two until you find one that you really like.
